Last times @ Carlsbad high

the contest was supposed to start @ 11 am but it didnt start till around 1:30 & lasted till about 4. DC & transworld sponsered it, seems like monster dropped off the radar. The cracks were filled & bondoed and the crowd was there ready to see some major shit go down & maybe some ankle busting. No cops just a free for all which is a first @ the gap. There was a bunch of livin legends & old pros on attendence that consisted of Matt hensley, John lucero, Pat duffy, Colin mckay, adrian lopez, kristian svitak ( sportin a jerome bettis jersey), Josh kasper, Oscar jordan, Marcel johnson, Neal mims just to name a few

There was alot of blasting going down...some random dude started it off with attempting to ollie the gap while losing his deck and just stomping his heels so hard on the landing that you could hear the echo of his bones hammering the concrete. Nick merlino tore it up the whole time with a bunk knee & ankle, this dude is an animal. lindsey robertson was there ripping aswell dropping a switch heel, b/s heel flip & tyler mcclung was part of the main event towards the end of the session, he was hard at work spinning a switch bs big flip !! shit was sick for sure...Wow...he landed twice and sess sliding out and sliding on his back 2-3 times. Death wish am louis de los reyes a.k.a Moose tore it with a nollie bs flip and a fs flip over the rail n gap. He earned his bs nollie flip that he landed previously and mysteriously hopped off after his roll away, non the less he made up for that and he landed it super buttery w/ a calm roll away.....Greg myers battled his demons & while coming down he had his deck bounce off the crete only to connect with his face........josh kasper threw down an ollie impossible with flouro grip. Prolly the sickest trick was creatures silent mike who double flipped over the rail

The turn out could of been better if it was a pro & am contest ( even though they let lindsey robertson enter) the 1st place prize was 2,500 smackeroos which was like an 1980's purse ...... All expectations aside it was a pretty damn good real raw street contest

The big E word

To me a soundtrack can either make or brake a video. Its what makes an epic video so epic. Whens the last time you saw a damn good video with a shitty soundtrack? Dont get me wrong videography & all that cinematic shit is a major part too, oh yeah there has to be some hammers bring dropped aswell.

You would think its obvious that you need the combination of the three major components for an "EPIC VIDEO" but some companys are either clueless or just dropping videos for the sake of making money.

but there has always been 1,2 or even all 3 of the secret recipe missing from skate videos

I was trying to avoid throwing out the big E word....i hate using the word since its thrown around so loosely !

Gonzo goes to new york is the meaning of the right stuff. This video part never gets old, you can stick in a new video and it would still hold its own like mitch buchannnon on baywatch

brain lotti's now n later part dope sk8in ,music & videography

Ollie ollie oxen free

I wasnt around for the early days of the ollie but i certainly remember my first encounters of the late 80's vibe surrounding the sk8 culture. I was about to be introduced with an aggresive hammer droppppp and a twist of neon green ( money bumps are optional)

Let me start off by saying that these days an ollie doesnt mean shit ( Props to allan gelfand for popping that first ollie)................when i started sk8ing back in 87-88 an ollie meant alot, im talking about superstar status

the first question you would ask a fellow sk8er was.......How high can you ollie ?
the first reaction of a poser was to lie about his ollie's ...lemme tell yah , i lied about my vertical leap......but i eventually caught up to my lies!

when sk8ing was young and hairless it was the height of your ollie, that meant the world and the sk8 community was small, im talking small like 2 or 3% per school. If you wore sk8 shoes and wore a sk8 shirt that meant you were a sk8er. Even class mate's would ask about ollie's. An ollie was on the radar of the US kinda like a 900 is known by the world nowadays, even though they cant compare

ollies were hard to earn. 10" wide decks with 169 indy's, trackers , or thunders were the norm and if you could ollie higher then 2 feet, then you were considered a good sk8er...Now bring us to the modern day...alot of sk8er's (as of 2000 & above)are brought up and influenced by tony hawks play station games, you can do a unrealistic tricks by mctwisting to smith grind to revert to krooks to 5-0 to revert to chink chink to 50-50 to blunt and back to chink chink. Its pretty cool to be a part of something that has matured into what it is now & the best part is its still growing!
